Das entspannt ihn, sagt er, die Ruhe, die Natur, die Schicksale hinter den Fundstücken interessieren ihn.

Jetzt blättert er in seinem Tagebuch, sucht die Seite, auf der es um Sergejs Schicksal geht, präzise beschrieben in traurigen Details.

In dem Tagebuch hat er seinen Einsatz protokolliert, sagt Krammer. Auch ihre Kameraden in den anderen Luken feuern pausenlos.

Die Leuchtspurmunition zieht rote Linien über die Gräben und Lehmmauern, hinter denen die Angreifer liegen.

Dann feuern die Angreifer mit Panzerfäusten. Sie durchdringt den Stahl, trifft Sergej, an der rechten Körperseite unterhalb des Brustkorbs.

Links am Körper tritt der Sprengkörper wieder aus. Gruppenführer P. Die anderen im Panzer feuern schon wieder.

Keine Bewegung. Kein Schreien. Da ist nichts mehr. Oben rattern die Gewehre. Zu gefährlich, sagten die Bundeswehrleute. Dort, wo im Lager Sergejs Zelt stand, war nur noch eine leere Fläche.

Trotzdem hat es ihm geholfen, zum Kriegsschauplatz zu reisen. Sein Besuch in Kundus ist zwei Monate her. Als wäre er erst gestern gestorben.

Seit einiger Zeit versuchen Sergejs Eltern, nicht mehr so oft hierherzukommen. An dem Tag, an dem Sergej sein Leben verlor, ist ihres aus den Fugen geraten.

Aber was zählt das alles, wenn eines von ihnen jetzt hier begraben ist? In den Ferien schnappten sie sich einen Ghettoblaster und fuhren zum Bodensee.

Eine normale Jugend in Deutschland. Nur was seinen Berufswunsch angeht, war Sergej anders als die anderen. Als er in seiner Klasse sagt, er wolle Soldat werden, johlen alle.

Beknackt, Alter. Der neue Verteidigungsminister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg wird deutlicher. Er sei wahnsinnig stolz gewesen, Soldat zu sein, sagt die Mutter, eine kräftige Frau.

Sie zieht die Schultern hoch. Die Eltern sind zurück vom Friedhof, beide sitzen am Küchentisch, vor sich Kaffee. Sergej habe das schon als Kind gewollt.

Viktor Motz sagt nichts. Er schaut auf seine Hände, die auf der Tischplatte ruhen. Hat er mit Sergej über seine Soldatenzeit geredet?

Während des Wehrdienstes sei Sergej so begeistert gewesen, sagt Galina Motz. Viktor schweigt. Als sich Sergej dann verpflichtete, hätten sie nichts mehr dagegen gesagt, erzählt Galina Motz.

Im August kam plötzlich der Bescheid, Sergej sollte nach Afghanistan. Keine Friedensmission! Doch sein Sohn wollte das nicht hören.

Er freute sich auf den Einsatz. Als die Mutter verlangte, dass sie alle noch ein gemeinsames Foto machten, sträubte er sich erst — wozu? Eine Umarmung, ein Kuss.

Dann war Sergej fort. Er sieht dabei aus, als würde er gleich weinen, aber er tut es nicht. Kann er nicht, sagt er. Es sind diese Fragen, die ihn quälen: Warum hat er seinen Sohn in einen Krieg ziehen lassen, den er nicht falsch findet, aber falsch geführt, zu feige.

Er, der bis heute selbst gepeinigt wird von seinen Kriegsträumen, vom Trauma. Er, der von sich sagt, der Krieg habe ihn härter, gröber, kälter gemacht.

Er kannte das doch alles. Er war 18, als er im Oktober zur Armee eingezogen wurde. Sie fliegen nach Taschkent, nach Termez, eine Ewigkeit.

Doch von alldem stand kaum etwas in der sowjetischen Presse. Blickt wieder auf die Hände. Ihr Mann rede nicht darüber, sagt Galina Motz, nicht einmal mit ihr.

Irgendwann erzählt er doch, Bruchstücke aus einem fernen Krieg. Ständig hätten sie geschossen, gekämpft, getrunken.

Überall sei doch Gefahr gewesen, sagt er. Heute schaut der gefallene Sohn seinen Eltern und den beiden jüngeren Geschwistern beim Leben zu. Sergej sei überall hier im Haus, sagt Vater Viktor.

Manchmal würde Viktor gern ausziehen, weil er sich fühlt, als lebte er in einem Mausoleum. Auch Sergejs Zimmer wäre fort.

Die Verletzten werden bald mit einem Hubschrauber ausgeflogen. Ich sah Trauer und Entschlossenheit, aber auch Hass", sagt der Offizier, der gerade wieder in Afghanistan im Dienst ist.
